San Lorenzo
Di Gino, 2018

Grower: San Lorenzo
Region: Marche, Italy
Grape Varieties: Verdicchio
Viticulture: Organic
Size: 75cl bottle

This is arguably one of the best value white wines in the shop! It comes from the Cognaletti family who are responsible for making some of the most sublime examples of Verdicchio in the Marche region. Natalino Cognaletti is a third generation winemaker in charge of Frattoria San Lorenzo, a free thinker with no interest in standardisation or approval from anyone. He farms exclusively with biodynamic methods, has a strong commitment to the environment of the vineyards and looks to build an ever healthier biodiversity with the inclusion of farm animals, mindful vineyard management and little weeding.

‘Di Gino’ refers to Natalinos’ father Gino who is responsible for the much of the pruning and care taking of this ancient vineyard, which sits west of Ancona in dei Castelli di Jesi region which is in close proximity to the Adriatic. As well as having exceptional fruit as a base, the wine spends several months on lees adding density and character. This process coupled with the history and winemaking skill in the family all help to produce wines that can be enjoyed on release, as well bottles that can lay for many years to come.

An entry level Verdicchio that is the definition of crowd pleasing but more than that it offers complexity, expression of grape and place and unmatched value. High praise indeed but it’s yet to let us down.

Great wine from an iconic producer. There aren't many wines of this complexity exist at this price.
