Rosa Trilli 2019

'£28'

Anyone that has met or spent time with Trish will most likely attest to her energy and vibrancy for life. A resourceful and hardworking vigneron. Australian born but with the adoptive home of Lazio over the past few years in the hills above Lake Bolsena. A mineral rich area for viticulture that is slowly regaining attention after a period of abuse and abandonment.

Before setting out on her own, she had an undoubtedly influential education from some of Italy’s natural wine titans. Enter the ever humble Antonio and Daniella De Gruttolo of Cantina Giardino and the controversial Gianmarco Antonuzi and Clémentine Bouvéron of Le Coste. Noble are faithful fans of these fine folk. The importance of mentioning this is due to fact that there are echoes of time spent with these winemakers in all of Trishes wines. Most notably the macerated whites.

We’ve tracked the progression of Trish’s domaine since she was first imported to the UK by our good friends Tutto Wines and we're always pleased to see these shine on the shelves, but sadly they never stick around for long. Two hectares of low yielding vines (procanico, ansonica, malvasia and moscato) means bottles are spread thin for the UK market. Seasonally they seem to last for a month and then gone. Starlings of the wine trade.

Her working methods are conscientious and thoughtful. Organic of course, utilising a variety of wild and herbal plants for biodynamic preparations and eschewing the use of sulfur throughout. Being placed in the hills around Lake Bolsena means the vines live on a nutrient rich bed of volcanic deposits; sand, ash, lapilli and loose rock. Vinification takes place in her homemade cellar and she approaches each vintage afresh employing a variety of methods and vessels to suit the vintage.

We look forward each year to Trishes releases; progressive, vitality, resolve and curiosity are all terms to be attributed to one Italy’s brightest and most loved adopted winemakers. Don’t sleep on these.
