The world seems a little out of sorts at the minute. I think we can all feel it to some degree. I'm here to tell you that these wines won't solve any of those more existential, societal or ecological problems but they will help to center you, and allow for the briefest of moments some respite and clarity from the everyday. They feel playful, irreverent, nourishing, light-footed and above all else joyful. And who doesnt need more of that in their life?
Romain Le Bars, Pousse Cailloux 2020Pousse Cailloux is lithe, complex, layered, enigmatic, and yet wildly quaffable. All bramble and blackberry, with the faintiest of grip. It hits the sweet spot between being just jammy enough and savoury enough to make it utterly drinkable. Romain was a protégé to the inimitable Eric Pfifferling whose hand never seems far away from these wines.
La Lunotte, Ormeaux 2020Christophe Foucher takes on god teir like status here at NFL. He can do no wrong. Such is the case with Ormeaux. A gamay grown on the holy trinity of soils; clay, flint and silex. Whole bunch maceration for two weeks draws out the darker side of this fruit driven varietal. Earthly, crunchy and steeped in black fruit, all the while having the hallmark 'slurpability' that we've come to love from Foucher
Cascina Tavijn, Teresa 2020Named after Nadia's (the winemaker) mother, this is a wonderfully complex but approachable wine, brimming with ripe fruit undercut by a pleasant lick of salinity. Soft spice and tannins provide welcome intrigue and carry through into a well balanced finish
Jolie-Laide, Barsotti Vineyard Gamay Noir 2020Deliciously plump and warmly textured wine, with a bit of ripe strawberry fruit that makes it incredibly moreish and drinkable.
