A one-off mixed pack of wines that I’ve had the pleasure of drinking in the last couple of months, wines that have thrilled and intrigued, that have engaged and left a lasting imprint on my mind and palate.
I stuck with whites for this pack, and I selected them for their individuality and style. This is a play on textures and expression, a group that is representative of the history and the future of mindful wine growing and making, a flight of wines that have made me pause and reflect, and laugh out loud with pleasure.
This pack is gleefully indulgent, a wild ride, a calm harbour, an education.
It is a stunning representation of what it is that I love about what I do, and what I’m hoping to one day achieve.
Lucas & Andre Rieffel, Grand Cru Wiebelsberg: Dense riesling
, broad and mouthcoating, opulent with a finesse to the waxy yellow fruit and petrol character. Punching above its weight class, surely.
Caroline Lededente, Prend'ler: Jacquere de Bugey
from the austere mountains of Savoie
. A rolling chill lingers across the top of the wine, bringing freshness to the oily fruit.
Rita & Rudolphe Trossen, Lay Purus: A touch of residual sugar brings out an immense added layer of complexity - heaps of baked orchard fruit, flinty minerality, and a broad and nourishing acidity to match. Perhaps a defining wine of the autumnal season.
Les Cailloux du Paradis
, Racines Blanc: There's something deeply nourishing about the Racines Blanc: a hearty dose of minerality gives weight and structure to a vibrant, buzzing acidity. A looking glass into the silex, quartz, and flint soils of the region, and the deft hand of Claude and Etienne as winemakers.
Masseria del Pino
, Caravan Petrol: Sunshine, herbs, salt, wind: this wine is the epitome of Sicily
, and we love it.
Sebastien Riffault, Sauletas: Opulent and broad, backlit with acidity that races through in a clear, defined line. Sunny and golden, like a perfect sunset.
