The old adage that winemaking starts in the vineyard is part of the philosophy in Alexandre Chartogne's domaine. Vineyards are plowed by horse, and despite lacking certification, are farmed entirely organically without the use of any herbicides or pesticides. Sheep, and chickens roam the vineyard and contribute to the overall soil health. Like most Champenois producers, Alexandre is fiercely dedicated to manifesting the expression of individual terroirs, and therefore favors vinifying parcels individually. Cuvée Saint-Anne finds itself in a lovely medium-bodied palate weight, with a purity of acid that finds focus through a warm white-fruited palate. Chalky minerality on display with just enough texture to make this an ultimately crowd-pleasing style.
