Cantina Marlina is placed at the very southerly tip of Sicily on the Eastern coast, close to the profoundly beautiful town of Noto in the province of Syracusa. It’s a large operation of around 60 hectares, with half under vine favouring strict organic methods of production and the other 30 hectares used for a selection of crops and animals. All of which is intended to eschew conventional practices and promote diversity. The ground is mineral rich and fertile in this part of the island, so says Angelo Paternò, the father and founder of the Cantina. After 25 yrs of winemaking, Angelo passed on his responsibilities to his two daughters Marlina and Federica but is still found in the cellar on most days for additional support. This is very much a family affair.

100% Grecanico grown on chalk, clay and limestone that sees an overnight maceration. Not quite an orange wine just yet but there’s something in the textural and waxy nature of this wine that suggests it’s on that road. Straw yellow and mellow in acidity. Dry medium body. Faint herbs and a fruit quality that suggests marmalade.
