Grower: Frantz Saumon
Region: Loire, France
Grape Varieties: Sauvignon Blanc
Viticulture: Uncertified Organic
Size: 75cl bottle
After a fruitful career in forest management in Canada, Frantz decided to try his hand at winemaking. Setting up shop in Montlouis-sur-Loire, Touraine in the 90’s. Biodynamic and organic practices have been present from the beginning with vines grown on clay, limestone and silex. Frantz produces quite an array of cuvées, some still and some petillant naturals, all with a common thread of striving for clarity, weightlessness and dryness in the cellar deploying the use of stainless steel, old wood barrels and fiberglass for vinification and ageing.
It’s a pretty classic iteration of this well known Loire varietal. Zesty citrus fruits, that green grass note that leans in on some Sauvignons to keep it balanced and a pleasantly high toned acidity that craves white fish or if you ain't fancy, and lets face sometimes you ain't…ready salted crisps.
