Marc Ollivier took over the now 28 hectare estate in 1984, beginning with only 7 and building and planting this highly successful keystone domaine until his retirement and last vintage in 2019. The estate is now in the capable hands of Rémi Branger (a local to area) and Gwénaëlle Croix who found her way through a change of careers from the industrial sector to viticulture. Marc can be found enjoying retirement in Brittany. There many rarities attached to this domaine in terms of production. In contrast to most other vignerons in the area harvest is done by hand, spontaneous fermentation is allowed to occur and extended lees ageing employed . For what is a robust and commercially driven area in the wine world these are honest, solid, good clean wines to come back to time and time again. A classic. On the table since day one here at Noble. It’s seen us through thick and thin. Whilst we dont always think to reach for this ourselves (its bit like that friend you haven’t seen in forever but reassuringly always there) I can confidently approve that if oysters are around then this is the ticket. Not only bone dry, but thirst quenching, lithe and sprightly. 6 months spent on lees (a rarity nowadays in this part of the world) adds a silky and welcome textural element.
