Martin and Anna are legacy winemakers. By that I mean they come from a lineage of well known, well respected Austrian vigneron. They’re young eager and have an inherit understanding of winemaking culture. Based in Kamptal, northern Austria close to Vienna they have been single minded in their pursuit of representing what Austrian wine can be.

Focusing firstly on the health and in their words the ‘intelligence’ of the soils, by applying biodynamic preparations and building up the microbiological life within them. They work with a mix of granite, slate and gneiss and cultivate, grüner veltliner, riesling, zweigelt and pinot noir.

Austrians have a reputation to be precise, calculated, focused, but these two eschew those adjectives in their own way. The wines have an idiosyncratic sense for that reason. They are traditional in approach but wild in delivery could be one way to describe them. Not having lost sight of their heritage, but simply pointing the compass in a different direction.

Weingut Martin & Anna Arndorfer Grüner Veltliner, 2019: a store staple: Ripe, yellow fruited acidity follows some lovely taut minerality, a gentle spritz is sometimes present. This one is reached for again and again.
