A quiet, intuition-led, and lovely winemaker with a steadfast and humble approach to his work. When we went to visit, it’s clear that despite his calm demeanour and soft features, he’s committed to working against the grain in a region with a real investment in the tradition of quite conventional sparkling wine production.
He and his wife opened their home to us, fed us a delightfully dense and satisfying Alpine casserole, and poured us glass after glass of wines that celebrate not only the high-altitude, cool climate and sharp edges of Bugey, but also powerful women in history as per the cuvee names.
Each of Louis’s wines show his careful winemaking and measured approach in the vineyards. The wines are clean, ethereal, balanced, and a pleasure to drink.
