On the border of Slovenia and Italy, Alex and Simone farm their 6ha of terraced vines on rolling hills and strata'ed soils of what was formerly a seabed, rich in fossils and sandstone. Their family has been established here for over 100 years, and since taking up biodynamic farming in 2000 they've been able to detect a real change in their wines - a distinct salinity coming to the forefront that was muted before. Unquestionably there's terroir influence here; in terms of macerated wines of this region we can't say we've seen any with as much purity and delicacy elsewhere.
