Humble wine from humble origins as the saying goes. Working organically since 2001 and transitioning to biodynamics 8 years later, the Comte’s, headed by Christophe are a family run operation working 12 ha of vines and 3ha of cereals. One of only 4 independent organically managed domaines in the area. Incredibly they have chosen to make zero addition wines (no SO2) since 2007. Not only is that an impressive undertaking for such a large operation but also for being quite ahead of the curve commercially.
The domaine is situated in Valvignères, known for its white stoney limestone and white clay soils in the southern Rhone. For such a warm part of France the family produce fresh, clear and unfussy wines for the table that meet the needs of the many not the few. Humble wines from humble people, for modest wallets. What’s not to like.
